150,000 Designs Realized with ColdStream in 2024

We're thrilled to announce that Diabatix's customers have realized over 150,000 designs using our thermal design platform, ColdStream, in 2024. ColdStream has grown to become an everyday tool for engineers and designers at the forefront of thermal design innovation in industries as varied as electric vehicles (EVs), battery cooling, LED lighting, semiconductor chips, and consumer electronics. By combining generative design with most manufacturing methods, ColdStream empowers builders to create efficient, lightweight, and customized cooling solutions that push forward efficiency and sustainability.

2024 in Numbers

Concept vs. Detailed Designs

Concept design refers to pre-configured solutions that address common thermal challenges. These designs are faster to implement and cost-effective, making them ideal for applications with well-defined requirements or where time-to-market is critical.

Detailed design, on the other hand, involves creating tailored solutions to meet specific and often complex engineering needs. Using advanced tools like generative design, detail designs optimize performance, weight, and efficiency for unique applications, offering unparalleled precision and innovation.

Last year, 2,613 designs were fully customized and 151,866 designs leveraged concept configurations.

In percentage, this means that 98% were concept designs and 2% were detailed designs.

Processing Methods

ColdStream offers three processing methods for thermal design simulation: CFD, CFD Reinforced, and Correlation. Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) provides high-fidelity predictions of fluid flow and heat transfer, while CFD Reinforced enhances these simulations with data-driven techniques for greater speed and efficiency. Meanwhile, Correlation relies on empirical models to deliver quick, simplified thermal performance estimations, enabling rapid design assessments.

The number of processed designs for each of these techniques is:

  • CFD: 19,519
  • CFD Reinforced: 15,171
  • Correlation: 119,501

Resolution Levels

ColdStream offers three resolution levels for CFD simulations: Conceptual, Draft, and Detailed. The Conceptual level provides rapid, low-fidelity simulations for early-stage design exploration. The Draft level balances accuracy and speed, offering more refined predictions suitable for design iterations. Finally, the Detailed level delivers high-fidelity simulations with precise fluid flow and heat transfer analysis, ideal for final validation and optimization.

The number of processed designs for each of these resolution level is:

  • Conceptual: 15255
  • Draft: 622
  • Detailed: 2210

Faster Designs

The average duration for design generation went from 1 minute and 50 seconds to 18 seconds, a six time decreased!
